Head of Collections

White Oak are currently recruiting for Full Time Head of Collections to join our collections team based in our Chester office.

What will I be responsible for?

Reporting to the Chief Risk officer, the overall objective of the Head of Collections is to manage the collections and recoveries process within the department, to meet the targets and standards of service that the business demands.

Whilst the role includes the supervision and management of a small departmental team, the primary objectives of the job holder are to maintain and improve the company's internal collections and arrears management process to ensure that the company's collections and bad debt provisioning targets are met and improved upon. Other duties include:

  • Deal appropriately with all incoming communications from customers, and third parties ensuring that data protection, AML regulations, treating customers fairly principles, compliance and complaints handling procedures are followed
  • Ensure the collections team are following the documented procedures
  • Responsible for outbound call quality (self and team) ensuring that best practice and appropriate telephone manner is used on all occasions
  • Maintain, review and when necessary, update/change the collection policy, procedures, and flow paths to ensure best practice, considering the economic viability of all collection actions
  • Ensure that repayments and arranged debts are maintained to provide maximum recovery on all cases
  • Action and escalation of high value, asset risk and failed repayment cases including authorisation of repossessions and legal enforcement
  • Organisation of sale of repossessed assets
  • Manage the third-party debt collection relationships. Liaison with administrators, liquidators, and other third-party appointees
  • Deal with end of term collections including outstanding sale of asset invoices, secondary period rentals, and legal actions
  • Communicating when necessary, with brokers and suppliers either directly or via relevant internal sales contacts
  • Ensuring that bad debt provisions are maintained and write offs managed in line with the firm's policies and procedures
  • Oversee the monthly upload of CAIS files, validation, and creation of new portfolios
  • Upload and maintain CBILS arrears and guarantee claims via the guarantee portals, including invoicing for claims

Who are we looking for?

If you collections experience particularly within the B2B and asset finance industry, the role of Head of Collections could be ideal for you. You will also require the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of finance and leasing
  • Staff management, development, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of AML, Data protection (GDPR), Fraud, FCA and FLA regulations.
  • Experience of dealing with complaints handling procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Computer literacy
  • Logical and balanced decision-making skills
  • Numerical, organised and able to both operate and communicate at a senior level
  • Appreciative of the importance of, and the ability to maintain good internal and external customer relationships
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working in a fast-moving environment and ability to work under pressure
  • Be persuasive, persistent and self-motivated
  • Show empathy, assertiveness, tact and resilience
