Hours: 37.50 hours per week.

Salary: £22718 per annum

Contract: Fixed term contract until October 2022

This role is a maternity cover role. Salary is inclusive of an outer London weighting of £2,690.

The 17th century treasure, Ham House, is situated on the banks of the Thames, a stroll along the river from Richmond station. An increasing awareness of our local audience and their needs, will be shaping the direction at Ham, as we look to grow our supporters and assert ourselves in the competitive London landscape.

What you'll be doing

The house at Ham opens 7 days a week and you'll be responsible for its daily opening and smooth running at least 3 days a week, ensuring appropriate resources are in place to be able to provide a consistently excellent service for our visitors. You'll be part of a team led by a Property Curator and work alongside a Senior Collections & House Officer. You'll take a lead on matters in the house relating to volunteering as well as supporting on compliance, preventative conservation and programming.

Working with our Collection Assistants, you'll also be part of the team responsible for implementing conservation routines and annual deep cleaning programme within the house to ensure excellent standards of care, delivering strategies to improve conservation.

You'll be working one weekend in 3 and there will be an opportunity to be part of an on call key holding rota to respond to emergency situations at the property, supported by a third party Security firm. Addition payments will be made for each on call duty undertaken

Who we're looking for

  • Knowledge of customer care and approaches to optimising visitor enjoyment.
  • Good team player with day to day line management and supervisory skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills enabling relationships to be maintained.
  • Some knowledge and experience of managing costs and expenditure.
  • Willing to contribute original or imaginative ways to make elements of the collection or house that are difficult to reach accessible to all visitors.
